Adoption Publications
"Robbie's Trail through Adoption" is arguably one of the most insightful adoption books for children on the market. This story, which comes with children's activities and an adult guide, is a terrific complement to any adoptive parent training.
"Robbie's Trail through Adoption" is an engrossing story about Robbie Rabbit, a lovable character who is eventually adopted. In the opening scene, a courtroom hearing has just concluded when Robbie is told that he has become eligible for adoption. After Robbie learns the news, he experiences conflicting emotions as he realizes he won't see his birthmother anymore and that his foster parents want to adopt him. Adoption-eligible children will see how Robbie's caseworker, therapist and foster parents help him prepare for his final visit with his birthmother.
Because this adoption story features the same characters as those starring in "Robbie's Trail through Foster Care" (see Foster Care publications), foster parents and caseworkers can easily use this story as the sequel to the foster care story.
Unlike most other adoption books for children, this story contains several children's activities (conveniently located in the back of the book). Eight unique activities for Robbie's Trail through Adoption cover important issues such as control, grief and loss, feelings, communication and self-identity. Every book purchase includes a downloadable PDF of the 24-page adult guide, which is designed specifically to help adoptive parents, foster parents and/or caseworkers facilitate the children's activities. (Those who prefer a hard-copy version of the guide can choose this option at checkout for an additional charge.)
Though not intended as adoptive parent training, the adult guide contains a wealth of background information, several tips for helping adoption-eligible children and perhaps much-needed perspective about adoption-eligible children in general. Additionally, the adult guide includes instructions for facilitating each activity, talking points and answers when applicable. Learn more about the adult guide by clicking here!
